What the New Transit Map Doesn't Show

The redesigned system map promises clarity. Residents of the east corridor say it erases their routes entirely.

What the New Transit Map Doesn't Show

The new transit map, unveiled to applause at the December board meeting, is a masterwork of clean typography. The east corridor is not on it.

Three bus lines that carry the district's commuters were quietly folded into a single dashed route labeled "east shuttle." The shuttle runs half as often as the lines it replaced, and it stops at the old mall, which has been closed since 2021.

Transit officials say the map reflects a service realignment approved last spring. Residents of the corridor say they learned about the realignment from the map itself.

"We didn't lose a line," said Rosa Delgado, who rides the 4:40 a.m. run to the hospital. "We lost three lines and gained a rumor."
